Setting sail

This one is for you, Donald!

There are a number of shops in District 1 that sell these incredible model boats. Even though they may not be my cup of tea, they are really quite impressive.

And they are very popular! Shop-keepers are often packing these large models away in to cardboard boxes to be shipped (pardon!) home.
And check out those Riva's!

And this late addition to the post is definitly not Vietnam, but is a sneak peek for those following the comments below. Yes, this is Stampede, stripped back to her primals. Nice curves........

hi guys - nice bloggin', looks like you're having fun! I am at work, looking out over sunny melbourne: the red roofs, the housing commission flats, the autumn leaves... oxfam is moving next month and I'll miss these big windows. Thanks for your updates that grant me extra entertainment at work! Much love

Hey Noddy, nice to see you in this space. I don't know the cost, but once I find out, you and Niddy will be the first to know!

Hi Tess. I will have to blog a few shots of the office for you to see. It is actually a lovely old 3-storey building, with heaps of windows, looking out over our swimming pool. Kinda nice, but the trouble is, I sit in the middle! V4A away.

What's a Riva?

Hi Mick and Gab. Riva is la bella barca di legno. Google Riva and you will see why some blokes get wood playing with good wooden boats.

A model is nice, but as always, size does matter. Of the four boats pictured two are Riva Aquaramas and the other two ChrisCraft of 1930ish vintage.

H & G, How do I post a picture of Stampede on your blog so that your mates can see just how mad you really are!

Okay, now I'm a bit worried about Freche's recommendation that Stampede's "hull has to be wooded"! I thought it would just entail a lot of sanding...

Anyway, I've just added a couple of pics to show how Freche treats other people's property! (or visit his website: http://www.fhboats.com.au/) I will do a full post from go to whoa in another month or so.

Hey Noddy - we checked out prices and they range from $35 to $65 for the smaller and mid-sized boats. The Riva was $65 I think. Some of the big and very complex ones were about $150. (USD btw) Not bad. They fold them down, pad them, box them and send them out. Place your order!
